What is Bardhoka bhata?

The West Bengal government provides a monthly pension to the elderly in West Bengal. This pension system is known as "Bardhoka Bhata" or the social security pension system. This pension system applies to all seniors, regardless of caste

The State Government has now decided to increase the monthly pension to a uniform rate of Rs. 1000 per month, in case of schemes where benefit is Rs. 600 or Rs. 750 per month.

Who qualifies for old age pension?

Applicant must be destitute and having no regular source of financial support form family members or any other sources is eligible for old age pension. BPL widows and BPL persons with severe and multiple disabilities in the age group of 60 -79 years are not eligible for this scheme.

The Eligibility criteria to received Bardhoka Bhata 2022:-

Adult citizens of West Bengal are eligible for this program if they meet the following criteria: Applicants must reside in West Bengal. On January 1, 2021, a person turns 60. The candidate has a monthly income and the monthly income must not exceed Rs 1,000 and the candidate does not receive support from relatives. The applicant has lived in West Bengal for at least 10 years from the date of the application. An applicant for an old-age pension is not another compulsory pensioner. However, the state reserves the right to relax the residency requirements in special cases.
